Ukiyo-e style mural of a photo from Mexico, Conrico Steez, Bristol, UK

I took this photo in Agua Azul, Chiapas, Mexico on a holiday a few years back. 

I did a quick overlay sketch of the photo, adding some basic colours in Procreate before going out to commence painting my mural. I went to a spot I chose between two pillars specifically, I felt this would frame the motion of the river well and compliment the border around the piece nice and neatly. 

I spent around 5/6 hours at the spot, building up the layers with spray paint and segmenting parts of the design off with a hard edged outlines. After which I began filling the space with layers of colour and shade, when I was happy with how it looked I restarted drawing the hard lines with black spray to bring depth into the mural and form an outline for ridges/leaves etc... 

I decided to add a few mountains peaking over the horizon line of the tree's and foliage along with my signature at the top of the piece in a nod to the 'floating islands' ethos that ukiyo-e prints styled their name from giving the landscape and mystic sense to the imagery.
